God of War: Ascension is a testament to the fact that games don't need yearly releases to stay relevant; and even more proof that there's still quite a bit of power in those old current gen consoles after all.

Game Over Online: "God of War: Ascension isnt a bad game by any stretch of the imagination, but considering its lineage, it feels like a step back rather than a step forward. We know this isnt Kratos last hurrah, but heres hoping he comes back with a vengeance."

Before he was a god he was a man Pure|News writes: Yeahabout that.. What I hoped they meant by that was that they were going to focus on his relationship with his family as they already did a game about Calliopes daughter. I thought this one was about his wife since its the only family member that never got any development. Seriously, whats her name? Its half of his motivation and it always haunts his mind and still,I know nothing about her.

God of War: Ascension Review | D+PAD

D+PAD writes: The difficulty with reviewing God of War: Ascension as a fan of the series are the same faced by the game itself: its hard to avoid comparisons to previous games in the series. God of War and God of War 2 redefined epic gameplay, and God of War 3 showed us how much further the PS3 was capable of pushing that. Many hoped that Ascension would show there was still life in the PS3s old bones yet, but it doesnt really push the series forward in any meaningful way.

God of War: Ascension Review [GamingUnion.net]

GamingUnion.net: "The God of War series has always prided itself on setting bars and continually raising them with each new iteration and this was summed on last generation. Just when it looked like the PlayStation 2 hardware was pushed to its absolute limits with the first game, two years after came God of War II - it completely shattered those perceptions. When God of War III came out, there was hardly an action game that could hold a candle to its production values and polish. However, as the second entry on the PlayStation 3 arrives, there isn't that same feel. It doesn't feel as though the developers have pushed things any further than they did with God of War III. Oddly, God of War: Ascension is a tepid step back with an equally muted Kratos."
